Strengthening the Global Response to the Massive Influx of Sargassum Seaweed Blooms
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join a webinar on “Strengthening the Global Response to the Massive Influx of Sargassum Seaweed Blooms”, in follow-up to the resolution adopted at the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7). The webinar will take place on 2 April 2026 from 4:00 to 5:30 EAT.
This webinar is convened under the leadership of the United Nations Environment Programme as part of follow-up actions to the resolution adopted at the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), reflecting the growing global recognition of Sargassum as a transboundary environmental challenge.
It brings together Member States, regional organizations, scientific experts, and key stakeholders to foster dialogue on the drivers, impacts, and management of Sargassum influxes. The purpose of the webinar is to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences across regions, while exploring pathways for coordinated implementation of the resolution at national, regional, and global levels. It also aims to strengthen collaboration, promote science-based decision-making, and identify priority areas for collective action to address the environmental, social, and economic impacts associated with massive Sargassum blooms.
