Seaweed is mucking up beaches. This robot could stop it — and fight climate change

Exciting News!

In a recent article, NPR News highlights a potential game-changer in the fight against sargassum influxes and potentially in the larger battle against climate change. Meet the ‘AlgaRay’ the innovative autonomous robot developed by the U.K.-based startup Seaweed Generation. The Seaweed Generation is currently experimenting with this cutting-edge technology as a potential sustainable and eco-friendly solution to tackle the ever-growing problem of sargassum influxes. The concept involves intercepting sargassum patches heading toward the shore, dragging them back into the open ocean, and submerging them to depths of approximately 150 to 200 meters.

As coastal communities seek sustainable, technology-driven solutions to manage sargassum, the AlgaRay offers a ray of hope for cleaner, more resilient coastlines. Fingers and toes are indeed crossed for its success.

Stay tuned for updates on its mission to combat sargassum influxes and contribute to the fight against climate change.
