Following the official launch of the comic book “Sargassum; Histoire d’une marée brune” which will take place on Friday, March 04, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. for Paris) on the zoom platform (connection link:, the French Embassy in Castries is organizing a musical literary Café, which will be held at the restaurant “Jambe de Bois” from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Our guests will have the opportunity to meet and discuss -over tea and pastries- with three Saint Lucian personalities involved in the making of comics, namely Nahdjla Carasco Baily and Katherine Atkinson, as well as the artist; Alwyn St.Omer.

Coordinated by the director of the Alliance française of Santo, Domingo Marion Lecardonnel, the writer Jessica Oublié and the researcher in environmental sciences, Ulises Jauregui, this literary work has received the support of the Embassies of France in Saint Lucia and the Dominican Republic, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Fondation des Alliances françaises.

In addition, the Sargasso comic book is the result of a collective work that brings together the contributions of 9 teams including 29 illustrators, scriptwriters and researchers from various countries affected by the Sargussum issue: Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Brazil, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, Mexico, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and Venezuela.

The main objective of this book is to inform – in a pedagogical and artistic way- about the different opportunities offered by Sargassum, so that it ceases to be perceived only as sanitary and environmental threats.

This literary collaboration is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance, for France, to collaborate in cultural and scientific cooperation projects on themes common to those encountered by many countries in the Latin American-Caribbean zone.
