The IICA Barbados Delegation successfully hosted a webinar, ‘Sargassum Symposium: Agricultural Applications of Sargassum Seaweed,’ on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The 2 hour webinar aimed to equip farmers, agricultural technicians, and researchers with practical insights into the chemical composition of sargassum seaweed and its potential in agriculture. Topics explored included:

• Chemical composition of sargassum seaweed
• Utilization in agriculture: plant growth enhancement, composting, mulching
• Soil improvement techniques
• Pest deterrent properties

The Symposium featured presentations by experts from:
