The new Copernicus Marine Service Evolution Project called SODA: Sargassum Operational Detection Algorithms has been launched! This initiative will develop a new set of sargassum products derived from multiple satellite observations.

Based on the sargassum products that Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS) and Hygeos have previously created, numerous scientific projects will be created to address the shortcomings that have been identified by the previous years of operation and improve the outcomes of the algorithms to generate the best sargassum detection products now on the market. This proposal intends to meet the demand of a large community of users and stakeholders for open access to high quality sargassum detection tools while strengthening Copernicus Marine’s standing globally.
