Publication alert! Monitoring pelagic Sargassum inundation potential for coastal communities
Pelagic Sargassum is a buoyant macroalgae that forms rafts at the ocean surface and serves as a biologically rich habitat for hundreds of diverse marine species. Since 2011, massive blooms of Sargassum have occurred in the tropical Atlantic and swept through the western tropical Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico.

CC4FISH policy brief: March 2021, Issue 3

Postdoc opportunity on seagrass ecology, data analysis and synthesis at Florida International University
Dr. Jim Fourqurean with the Institute of Environment at Florida international University seeks a motivated post-doctoral researcher. Along with other projects to be developed in consultation with the advisor, the post-doc will work with the C-GRASS working group (Coordinated Global Research Assessment of Seagrass Systems) to lead a synthesis of current seagrass data to understand the status and trends of this valuable coastal ecosystem.

CARICOOS article on Sargassum inundation, anoxia and increased acidification
Sargassum inundation of recreational beaches has proved to become a persistent problem with a significant impact on the tourism industry and a challenge to entities managing the issue.
