Sargassum Champions Course

The Sargassum Champions Course was developed from The Sargassum Podcast with the goal of providing community leaders with in‑depth knowledge about Sargassum so they can educate others in their communities. The first session was held online with financial support from the European Union.

The course combined recorded expert videos, field‑based homework, and live video‑conference sessions that allowed participants to exchange information about the Sargassum situation in their respective locations. In total, the organizers produced seven original expert videos and secured the rights to use four additional existing expert videos.

The program was a major success, bringing together 24 participants from nine different islands. Since completing the course, alumni continue to meet monthly and invite experts, allowing everyone to continue learning together. Participants have since shared their Sargassum knowledge with over 1,000 people through classes, radio and television interviews, public talks, and one‑on‑one conversations.
